Rumuodara: The Village the Flyover Runs Through
Rumuodara is a community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, on the edge of Port Harcourt’s built-up core.
The name most people associate with Rumuodara these days is the flyover. Julius Berger built it to link Rumuokoro, Aba Road, Akpajo, and Rumuodara, and it was commissioned in December 2022 under then governor Nyesom Wike, one of a run of flyover projects across the city around that time.
Where it sits
Obio/Akpor covers about 260 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 465,000 at the 2006 census, one of four Ikwerre kingdoms making up the LGA (Akpor, Apara, Evo, and Rumueme). Rumuodara sits close to Rumuokwurusi, connected to it directly by the flyover, and within reach of Akpajo across the LGA boundary in Eleme.
Getting around
Before the flyover, this stretch of road was one of the more congested junctions feeding into Aba Road, one of Port Harcourt’s main arteries. The flyover changed the daily commute for a lot of residents here, cutting out a bottleneck that used to back up traffic well past Rumuokoro.
Neighboring areas
Rumuodara connects most directly to Rumuokwurusi and Rumuokoro through the flyover corridor, and from there to Akpajo and the Aba Road axis running toward central Port Harcourt.
