Ogbaru covers about 388 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 318,000 as of 2022, spread across towns including Obeagwe, Oluta, Ochuche, Umunankwo, Okpoko, Odekpe, and Atani, the LGA’s administrative headquarters. Ogbaru sits along the Niger River and shares borders with Rivers and Delta States.

Ogbaru’s low-lying position along the Niger makes flooding a recurring concern across the LGA, with major flood events recorded in 2018 and 2020.
